The Final Boys podcast was actually recommended to me by Kaleb of Macabre Media Podcast when I was asking about new shows to check out. Podcasts are such a tricky beast, because they are all so vastly different. I am always hesitant to stray from my routine group of podcasts, but in this case, I am so glad I did. Though I am a huge fan of true crime podcasts, I have begun delving more into the world of horror cinema pods and The Final Boys is one of the best there is. So let’s get into it.
FoF: First and foremost, tell us about yourself.
We are Dustin and Mat. We host a bi weekly horror in cinema and pop culture podcast. We tackle topics from movie reviews to urban legends to true stories that inspired motion pictures.
FoF: What do you do? And why do you like it?
We are content creators and podcasters. We love horror and love talking about it with whomever may listen.
FoF: Explain a little bit of your process? Where do you find your inspiration?
Our process is pretty simple. We start with a topic and do as much research as our already busy schedules allow. Then we get together and talk about it as two good friends. We find inspiration in all things horror – other creators, ghost stories, movies, books and urban legends that shape what we are truly afraid of.
FoF: What drew you to horror in the first place?
We like horror because of the emotion that it evokes. Whether you love horror or hate it every has that one story of watching a scary movie for the first time or visiting a haunted house.
FoF: What is your favorite horror work? (Movie, Show, Art, Book, whatever you want)
Oh gosh this is such a hard question. Mat is an absolute nerd about 80’s and earlier horror, while Dustin prefers the new school paranormal movies. But we both agree that horror is in our blood and Halloween lasts all year!
FoF: What has been your favorite thing you have gotten to work on doing this?
Being part of the horror community has opened so many doors and introduced us to so many cool people. It gives us an outlet to talk about what we love – it’s just a bonus that people want to listen.
FoF: What role do you think your specific style of art/work plays in the community overall?
I think we do a pretty good job of supporting the community. We like to highlight our friends whenever we can and just spread the word to help grow the horror community.
FoF: Anything you are working on that you want to highlight?
We have a lot of hopes for 2019 and getting some fun interviews with horror influencers. But you can always find us on iTunes or whoever you listen to podcasts every other Friday.
I want to thank both Dustin and Mat for wanting to answer these questions and for being so willing to join our FREAKY FRIDAY creator series!
